"We were seriously considering moving to Traverse City before starting our business. But then—it was one of those gut feelings you get—we chose Bay City, and it was a perfect move for us. It’s such a tightknit community and I love how supportive everyone is."

“We played with the idea of going to different states, and every month, we’d come up with somewhere different. But when our son Jonah was born, it changed our perspective. Chelsie had just graduated and having a child brought a huge feeling that we should come back home. We wanted our kids to know their family.

It had always been our dream to own a practice together. After working for a time, it became clear that, whether we were ready or not, we had to do it.

It was time to step out and take a leap of faith…and we opened our doors the same day the world shut down. In hindsight, it turned out to be good for our business: we were new, so we used the time to modify our office in ways to make people more comfortable.

We wanted an office that gave people the same ease and comfort you feel when you come home. We thought about everything a person would experience in our office. What do they see first? How are they greeted? What do they smell? We thought about every single detail of the experience because it matters: we wanted to create a space that's inspiring for everyone, including us.

We are all about family, so we have a whole space dedicated to kids. Chelsie specializes in treating pregnant women and kids, so having a space for children was important. We wanted a place, like a coffee shop, where people felt comfortable having a kombucha while reading, but at the same time, a place where you could bring your family.

The kids will play and socialize along with the parents and it can be a little chaotic sometimes, but it's so fun. It’s like a big family when you're here.

We also love mentoring people who want to pursue chiropractic, that’s one of the reasons why we created such a big office. We have six adjustment rooms, which is a lot compared to most chiropractors offices, we built this office to create a space for new doctors. Not just a working space, but a space to build a relationship where we can invest into them, help them through life as they get their bearings. Right now, we have four doctors working here. And it was important to us to make a place that was uplifting for them, too.”

“When I was 18, I was in a four wheeler accident. I should’ve gone to the hospital, but I didn’t. Nothing felt broken, so I thought I was ok. But for years, I had terrible migraines.

Fast forward six years and my roommate is going to school to be a chiropractor, and he talked me into getting my first adjustment. No one in my family ever went to a chiropractor, so I didn’t know what to expect. I went to Dr. Tiller, taking advantage of the unlimited adjustment deal he was running for college kids at the time.

And after a month, my body felt great…and I didn’t have migraines.

I told my roommate that I wanted to know more about becoming a chiropractor. A week later, he told me he had lined up five different schools for us to tour. The schools were going to pay for the hotels, and he needed me to take a month off of work.

As soon as I got to the schools, I knew this was it: this was what I wanted to do. I loved the philosophy behind it, I loved the art of it—no one adjusts the same and everyone's bodies are different. I loved everything about it and I knew it was my calling.

This is what I was going to do for the rest of my life.

I love giving people hope. I remember how I felt my first day going to the chiropractor, and I think about that all the time. When I go in with a new patient, it's their first time getting adjusted and they may have no idea what chiropractic is. So I take time to educate them. Then maybe they go home and tell someone they know about their experience, a person who believes they'll never get better—they have a bad back, bad knees, bad hips—I love giving people like that hope.

I love the way I get to interact with people in the community. Getting to meet new people and seeing them out and about when we go places, I feel like a barber, getting to meet so many different people throughout the day. I truly don't ever feel like I'm working. I love what I do. I feel like I could do this until I'm 99.”

“My mom broke her back in a car accident when I was a kid. She had supposedly healed, but problems began and doctors wanted her to have surgery, but she decided to see a chiropractor instead. I’d see her go into the chiropractor's office with a walker, and leave without it.

I thought, ‘What is this magic?’

I was in pre-med at SVSU when I met Jon, torn between being a chiropractor and a pediatrician. So, when Jon told me he was going to visit chiropractic schools, I was shocked. My family's always been very holistically minded. My grandparents always went to the chiropractor, and so did my dad, so it's always been in our lives.

But it’s not the most common thing to want to do with your life. But then, when I found you could specialize in treating kids as a chiropractor, I told Jon, ‘We’re gonna get married and go to chiropractic school!’ and everyone thought we were crazy.

I love the different approach chiropractic takes to health, that there isn't one right way for anything. I want to make a ‘cool grandma's club’ with the goal of being able to crawl on the floor with your grandkids when you're older. I love changing people's perspective, and trying to empower them to make better choices so they can live longer, higher quality, more vivacious lives.”

“We were seriously considering moving to Traverse City before starting our business. But then—it was one of those gut feelings you get—we chose Bay City, and it was a perfect move for us.

I grew up in Sebewaing, a small town out in the thumb, so Bay City was ‘The City’ to us. This is where we would come shopping, go to the mall, and try to be cool. I’ve always felt at home here, like this is ‘my city’.

I think small communities are where it’s at. Our patients are truly investing in us by supporting our business, and we’re truly investing in them. It’s such a tightknit community and I love how supportive everyone is.

And now our entire family is back together in the region. It was a perfect fit.”
