FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Times Properties Announces New Development in Bay City: The Water Street Lofts*

The Times Properties, renowned for its award-winning residential projects such as The Times Lofts and The Legacy in downtown Bay City, is thrilled to announce its latest development: The Water Street Lofts. This ambitious project aims to address the growing housing needs in Bay County, while preserving the rich history of Bay City.

Co-owned by Matthew Meehan and Rod Hildebrant, The Times Properties has acquired nearly two city blocks of land stretching from Water Street to Washington Street and from 1st to 2nd Streets. This site, once home to the World’s Star Knitting Mill Company and later the Prime Event Center, is now being prepared for a transformation. The World’s Star Knitting Mill Company, founded in 1895 by Archibald Galbraith, was once the largest manufacturer of underwear and hosiery in the world. The factory, a beautiful brick compound in the traditional "factory" style of the era, will be reconstructed with a modern twist, paying homage to its historical roots.

"We are ecstatic to be bringing back to life a gorgeous building that has been missing from the skyline of downtown Bay City for almost a century," said Matthew Meehan, Owner of The Times Properties. "We believe that history is important, and have taken great care to respect the story of what was once here and the original settlers of our great city. Throughout the building, we will install a series of artworks showcasing its incredible and rich history."

The Water Street Lofts will be a mixed-use residential and commercial building, comprising 86 apartment lofts and various businesses. The vacant and overgrown lot across from the Boathouse, the dilapidated factory warehouse behind it, and the deteriorated Prime Event Center are all being cleared to make way for the future site. The development will extend Bay City’s bustling downtown to First Street and Washington Street, redefining what urban living stands for in the expanding Mid-Michigan housing market.

"The Times Properties takes the charge on launching apartments in the heart of Historic Downtown Bay City," said Meehan. "We are redefining what urban living means with the launch of the Water Street Lofts."

The Water Street Lofts will feature spacious studios, and one to three bedroom layouts, each with its own oversized private balcony or terrace offering stunning views of the Saginaw River and downtown Bay City. The community will also boast an oversized rooftop common space, beautifully landscaped and perfect for summer fireworks, family gatherings, or stargazing at night, accessible to all residents.

"Attainable apartment living has empowered young people to enjoy an elevated urban lifestyle with unparalleled flexibility," added Rod Hildebrant, Owner of The Times Lofts. "However, as rents continue to increase and as people make life choices to stay in a place for a longer period, our product bridges this gap, offering beautiful and unique apartments at an attainable price."

"The economic impact of housing in Downtown Bay City has helped local employers attract and retain talent, assisted in population growth, and supports small business" Jenifer Acosta, Project Consultant, highlighted. "The Times Lofts (owned and operated by The Times Properties) opened in 2017 and has a school bus stop now. It demonstrates how Downtown living is growing inclusively with options for everyone."

The Water Street Lofts promises to be the epitome of downtown living, bringing a blend of history and modern convenience to the heart of Bay City.
