Your resume is your first impression! Unfortunately, most of us don't get enough instruction or experience writing a resume...and then we get an opportunity at a great job! Watch the video or keep reading for Marlana's resume tips!
Be Truthful
Don't fake it until you make it! It's important for both you and a prospective employer to find a good fit, so be honest. Definitely find ways to apply your experience to the position, but don't stretch it too much!
Be Relevant
It might be tempting to pad your resume with EVERYTHING, but only include things that make a strong case for your employment. While you might have learned responsibility babysitting your sister at 13, leave it off your resume (Unless it's a babysitting job!)
Be Creative
Don't just copy/paste! The internet is full of examples and templates for cover letters and resumes, but make sure your resume has "you" in it. A resume that looks, sounds, and feels like a million other resumes is easy to ignore, so be creative and get the employer's attention!
Be Professional
Don't include "badmama6969@gmail.com" in your contact information.
Proofread it
Proofread it, proofread it...then proofread it again! Then give it to someone else and have them proofread. Typos, spelling errors, poor grammar: all these things can communicate to a potential employer that you don't care enough about getting the job. Cross those t's and dot those i's!
